Ignite the Longest Darkest Night: 2019 Solstice Festival

The 30th Annual Kensington Market Winter Solstice Parade takes place on Saturday December 21, 2019. A unique hand-made, non-profit, commercial-free event is a great way to kick off the holiday season.

Meet at the intersection of Oxford Street and Augusta Avenue at 6:30 pm.
Parade departs at 7:00 pm.
Lanterns will be sold from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 260 Augusta Ave. $20.00 each.

Red Pepper Spectacle Arts’ Artistic Director, Gabriella Caruso, tells us ‘First Light’, the event kick-off at the corner of Oxford and Augusta, will have a special added thrill this year – a New Orleans style Second Line scenario.

Follow musicians, giant puppets, winter characters and lovers of the sun along the parade route. Stop and go as you please. There are lots of performances along the way. Everything culminates with the grand finale at Alexandra Park at Dundas and Bathurst. Recycled wood is skilfully put together to create the enchanting giant burning sculpture that gives us the warmth we all crave. A spectacle not to be missed.

Thanks Red Pepper Spectacle Arts, Kensington Market BIA, KMAC the citizens of Toronto and the many organizations that contribute to the festival.
